Supply Chain Planner & Buyer

Leonhardt Manufacturing is looking to fill a Supply Chain Planner & Buyer position. The Supply Chain Planner & Buyer will develop and manage the production plan used to optimize inventory levels and support on-time delivery for our customers. The Planner/Buyer has the primary responsibility of entering sales orders and ensuring material availability to support production. This position requires material purchasing experience with a strong background in analyzing issues, planning, problem solving and negotiating with suppliers. Other responsibilities include, scheduling material deliveries and managing costs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monthly coordination and execution of the production planning (MRP) process utilizing ERP and planning software to define raw material and packaging requirements
  • Uses the organization’s demand plan to identify when products should be manufactured based on defined product family inventory requirements; maintains the required parameters for product family inventory requirements (A, B, C groupings)
  • Develops production plans including the preparation of all required inputs for weekly and monthly production meetings
  • Develops and implements indirect purchasing systems, policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with all operations, production and supply base to ensure delivery schedules are met
  • Manages suppliers and ensures standard operating procedures and key performance indicators are being delivered in a consistent manner
  • Provides training to stakeholders and originators on purchasing processes
  • Develops and maintains audit system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilize appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery and service
  • Develops business relationships with suppliers, potential suppliers and customers
  • Designs, implements, manages and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements
  • Develops strategies to minimize costs and/or lead times
  • Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct
  • Prepares and issues purchase orders and approves change notices
  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
  • Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price and acceptability of items to specifications
  • Oversees all activities related to procurement of a commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity
  • Negotiates or supervises the negotiation of products, raw materials, supplies and services from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Gathers and reports purchasing-related metrics
  • Performs miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Statistics or other technical-oriented field with 5 to 7 years’ experience in the field or related area (fabrication manufacturing experience preferred)
  • APICS – Supply Chain Management Certificate (preferred)
  • Lean Manufacturing (preferred)

Industrial Equipment Technician

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the facility’s equipment – i.e., CNC tube benders, robotic welders, stamping presses, mig and tig welders
  • Ensures operation of production machines by completing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance
  • Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas
  • Performs mechanical and electrical assembly of our robots, equipment and accessories
  • Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments
  • Runs tests of completed robots, equipment and documents test results
  • Inspects parts and assemblies per drawings and specifications, records any discrepancies and corrects them
  • Installs, configures and tests software on completed robots
  • Repairs and refurbishes robots that return from the field, tests and verifies as-new performance so that they can return to the fleet
  • Documents robotic test procedures and results
  • Documents design or operational test results
  • Collaborates with team members to develop and improve processes and trains other team members
  • Creates long term documentation for procedures including, training videos if possible, shot clocks where needed
  • Contributes to updating and improving our work instructions and other technical documentation
  • Supports Engineering through assembly and modification of prototypes and test hardware
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement activities such as reducing cycle time, creating better ergonomic stations


  • 4 years or more of experience in electronics and mechanical assembly, comfortable with wiring and cable routing and handling of small, intricate mechanical parts
  • Excellent knowledge of controls systems, pneumatic systems, Servo and VFD Controllers with all associated ancillary components, electric motors, sensors, instrumentation, and actuators
  • 3 years or more of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and PLC/automation experience
  • PLC programming or microcomputer programming would be a plus
  • Welding and fabrication experience a plus, but not required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills and problem-solving ability
  • Should be familiar with manufacturing quality systems and willing to speak up about any defect found and follow through with corrective action
  • Requires attention to detail and personal neatness/organization
  • Familiarity with 6S and Lean concepts is desirable
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required and customer interface ability is desirable
  • Requires strong computer skills and a basic level of networking/IT knowledge
  • Must have a cooperative, team-first attitude and the flexibility and willingness to do whatever is needed
  • Skilled in troubleshooting of electro-mechanical and computer systems, including use of tools such as multimeters and computer-based test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Observes and adheres to policies and procedures
  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends when needed
